St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) is excited to announce the arrival of our community’s first MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine. “This highly anticipated addition marks a significant milestone for the hospital and the residents of Elgin County, as it will greatly enhance our diagnostic capabilities and ensure better patient outcomes,” said Karen Davies, President and CEO.
This innovative MRI machine produces detailed 3D images to help diagnose health issues, detect disease, and monitor treatment. It uses a powerful magnet and radio waves to generate images of internal organs and structures. The new machine offers highly advanced image quality, allowing our medical team to deliver precise and accurate diagnoses.
“We are excited about the arrival of our first MRI machine. It is equipped with advanced imaging capabilities that will significantly improve patient care,” shared Dr. Stefan Potoczny, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging. “With this new technology, patients in Elgin County will no longer need to travel outside the area for MRI services, providing them with faster and more convenient access to critical diagnostic imaging.”
Renovations in the MRI suite will continue over the next few months, with the first patients expected to be seen on the new machine in the fall of 2024.
“The community’s support has been incredible, and we are eager to see the positive impact this new MRI machine will have on our patients,” said Karen Davies. “The addition of the MRI machine will improve access to diagnostic imaging, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for our patients.”
Funding for the MRI machine was generously provided by the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation through the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Elgin County; this achievement would not have been possible without their incredible support and donations.
